Albania has an incredible genetic heritage of olives that cannot be found anywhere else in the world. Although there are six dominant varieties, more than seventeen other indigenous varieties are also recorded.
The six dominant varieties are those of the six old production zones, namely:
- Kalinjot (Vlora)
- Kokërmadh Berati (Berati)
- Mixan (Elbasan)
- Ulliri Bardhë i Tiranës (Tirane)
- Krypsi Krujës (Krujë)
- Kallmet (Lezha)
Among these primary cultivars, Kalinjot is the only one being cultivated outside its area of origin.
In each production area, we find traditional indigenous cultivars, which we hope to introduce to you in more detail over time.
